Awareness Button Giveaway

Jasmine at Zazzle Elite is having an Awareness Button Giveaway. The button is designed much like a medical alert bracelet including ailment and emergency contact information. Jasmine says:
"I have a younger (who is a lot older now) sister with Autism and I know how scary it can be for a parent to send their child off to school or on a field trip and worry about if their child were to get lost, so I'd like to offer a button to someone and help ease their worries this school year. This contest is open to everyone in the United States."

Other ailments may be added to the button. Please visit Zazzle Elite for details and contest entry.

Zazzler that donates all proceeds

When Zazzler Causes was first started I thought it would be an easy task. There are so many cause and awareness designs on Zazzle. Something has made things difficult however. That is keeping my sites Family Friendly. It turns out many designs incorporate foul language. Also many designs raising money for breast cancer research use terms for breast that are not at all family friendly. I want to call attention to a Zazzler that donates all proceeds to charities! On top of that her designs are family friendly.

Barbara has this message at the top of her shop.

"All proceeds will be donated to mesothelioma research in memory of my Uncle (12/31/08) , March of Dimes in memory of my grandson (11/12/97) & Breast Cancer Research in memory of Onelia Barcon 4/12/07."

I would like to say Thank you Barbara. Here are several products from her shop. Please help Barbara with her cause and make a purchase.

Wildlife Forever Fundraiser

While reading the Zazzle forum today I got pleasant surprise. A shopkeeper posted the Children's State-Fish Art Contest winners art. Even if I could draw I would be impressed with these young artist! The contest is open to kids in grades 4 - 12. The children are using their skill to help raise money for a worthwhile cause. Here is a quote form the Zazzle shop.

"Wildlife Forever is America’s leading multi-species fish and wildlife conservation organization. As a 501(c) nonprofit charity, we rely on the tax-deductible donations and purchases of those with a passion for the outdoors. We’re hoping that is you.

Outdoor education for children is a big part of what we do and the State-Fish Art Contest is our signature program. You will be surprised at the quality of the winning artwork."

Crohn's Disease

Crohn's disease is an autoimmune disease, in which the body's immune system attacks the gastrointestinal tract, causing inflammation. It is classified as a type of inflammatory bowel disease that may affect any part of the gastrointestinal tract from mouth to anus, causing a wide variety of symptoms. There is evidence of a genetic link in Crohn's Disease.

Todays featured designer knows more than a bit about this condition. Her own daughter suffers from it.
"My daughter has had several surgeries and procedures since her pre-teen years. Life is never easy for a Crohn's patient, even when it is under control.

Crohn's disease is an inflammatory bowel disease (IBD). It causes inflammation of the lining of your digestive tract, which can lead to abdominal pain, severe diarrhea and even malnutrition.

The inflammation caused by Crohn's disease often spreads deep into the layers of affected bowel tissue. Like ulcerative colitis, another common IBD, Crohn's disease can be both painful and debilitating and sometimes may lead to life-threatening complications."

Zazzlers In Need

Zazzler Causes was started to showcase Cause and Awareness related designs. I have been moved to make an addition to this. With so many artist involved there are sure to be Zazzlers who are disabled or have family members that are. In some cases Zazzle may be a way to help supplement their income. For others it may be their sole source. Some may have become unemployed and are having trouble finding work.

If you are or know of a Zazzler in need I may feature them here and on the Facebook Page. Leave a post here or on the Zazzler Causes Facebook Discussion post.

There is a stipulation. In keeping with my faith I post only family friendly designs and do not post anything pagan or otherwise anti-Christian. This includes non-biblical holidays.

Thanks and may Yahweh bless you!

Asperger syndrome

All the artist showcased until now have cause or awareness related designs. Today will be just a little different. I was recently told of a Zazzle artist Randall Klopping who has been diagnosed with Asperger Syndrome. Asperger syndrome is an autism spectrum disorder though differs from others by its relative preservation of linguistic and cognitive development. Symptoms include significant difficulties in social interaction, along with restricted and repetitive patterns of behavior and interests. Randall loves to create and says "As far as I can remember, I have always sought to represent things in a visual manner. A trait I suspect comes from the Asperger’s syndrome, a form of Autism without the speech impediment." As seen by his art he is very creative.

Hopefully Randall will forgive me as I would like to add a big part of his bio here.
In an accident in 1992 I was crushed by a pickup and car, which left me able to spend less and less time standing or sitting. Though often my disabilities make it difficult and stressful for me, my goals are simple in principle. My short term goals are to earn enough money for nessetities, a new mattress & memory foam pad for my bed, have safety handles installed so I can safely shower on a regular basis and to be able to afford to pay someone to clean the heck out of my home (haven't been able to keep up with cleaning for years). My long term goal is the most difficult, some might say impossible but I intend to truly build a life for myself and have the dignity that comes from fully supporting oneself with all my hard work.

You can help Randall reach his goals and receive some truly amazing works of art in return. To see more of his designs and to make a purchase please visit teknowizard's Store at Zazzle.

Multiple Sclerosis

Multiple sclerosis (MS), also known as Disseminated Sclerosis or Encephalomyelitis Disseminata, is a disease in which the fatty Myelin sheaths around the axons of the brain and spinal cord are damaged, leading to Demyelination and scarring as well as a broad spectrum of signs and symptoms. MS affects the ability of nerve cells in the brain and spinal cord to communicate with each other.

Most people experience their first symptoms of MS between the ages of 20 and 40; the initial symptom of MS is often blurred or double vision, red-green color distortion, or even blindness in one eye. Most MS patients experience muscle weakness in their extremities and difficulty with coordination and balance. These symptoms may be severe enough to impair walking or even standing. In the worst cases, MS can produce partial or complete paralysis. Most people with MS also exhibit Paresthesias, transitory abnormal sensory feelings such as numbness, prickling, or "pins and needles" sensations. Other symptoms may include: Speech impediments, tremors, and dizziness are other frequent complaints. Occasionally, people with MS have hearing loss. Approximately half of all people with MS experience cognitive impairments such as difficulties with concentration, attention, memory, and poor judgment, but such symptoms are usually mild and are frequently overlooked. Depression is another common feature of MS. There is no medical cure for Multiple Sclerosis.

Tee Thyme, a Zazzle artist whose own daughter suffers from MS wishes to raise awareness about this debilitating disease. Please visit Tee Thyme's store at Zazzle for more products and to help raise awareness about Multiple Sclerosis.

Autism Awareness

Instead of siting facts and statistics relating to Autism I want to talk about one of it's effects on society. Autism tends to shed light on the character of those who do not have it. This ability is shared by other diseases and afflictions. I am certain many of you have seen this ability in action. Those afflicted and their family members have definitely seen it. Take the following as an example.

A person with Autism or maybe a burn victim decides to go to the zoo. They take in the sights, the smells, and the beautiful scenery. Others there have been doing the same thing. The bunches of people stroll along likely brushing against one another while trying to get a better look at the monkeys as they do what monkeys do. A security camera at the zoo takes it all in. When watched later the video can be used as a lesson in human behavior instead of animal. An attentive student will notice not many people brush against the Autistic or burn victim. In fact a break in the general pattern of the zoo visitors is evident. You can see more unattended space around our subject. Also many have turned their gaze from the animals and are now staring at the center of this space. Strangely some parents are even directing their children away from it. It's as if they are protecting them from something unpleasant or even dangerous. An attentive student may also notice something else. The look on many the faces has become less intelligent than the animals they came to see.

We all know that this really happens. I often wonder why some people react this way. Why look at the victim of a disease or accident with distaste, fear, or loathing? Not to take away from the design above but here is another idea for a t-shirt. Those with a disease or deformity can have a mirror on their shirts. That way the people gawking at them can see how ridiculous they themselves look smiley.

The creator of the design above is the mother of an Autistic son. She does not want people staring at him. Please visit mrs_eke's Store at Zazzle for more wonderful designs and to help raise awareness. Thank you.

Walk for a cause - March of Dimes

The March Of Dimes was born in the United states from the National Foundation for Infantile Paralysis founded by President Franklin D. Roosevelt. Their mission is to improve the health of babies by preventing birth defects, premature birth, and infant mortality. Comedian Eddie Cantor coined the phrase March Of Dimes to describe and annual fund raising event held in January by the Foundation. Eddie became one of the promoters for the event. After his death in 1945 President Roosevelt was commemorated with his face on the dime which was first minted in 1946.

The Walk for a cause design above was created by a Zazzle artist who goes by bkang22. About the design she says "I walk for a cause - to save babies. In memory of my grandson all proceeds will be donated to March of Dimes. The footprints are from my grandson who was born at 26 weeks, we hope to help other families to avoid leaving the hospital without their baby as my daughter and son in law did." About her Zazzle store she says "All proceeds will be donated to mesothelioma research in memory of my Uncle (12/31/08) , March of Dimes in memory of my grandson (11/12/97) & Breast Cancer Research in memory of Onelia Barcon 4/12/07."

January is Thyroid Disease Awareness Month

This is a cause that is very important to me as my youngest daughter suffers from Hypothyroidism.

The Thyroid is a large butterfly shaped Endocrine Gland. It is located in the neck above the collarbone. This gland produces thyroid hormone and affects nearly all of the bodies tissue. It's role is to help control metabolism and growth.

There are several conditions that can affect the thyroid. Cancer, Goiters, Hyperthyroidism, Hypothyroidism, Solitary Thyroid Nodules, and Thyroiditis. Depending on the disease the thyroid may become enlarged, produce too much or too little hormone, produce lumps or nodes, or become cancerous. When the thyroid is not functioning properly a person may experience weight gain or weight loss and may feel depressed and have a lack of energy.

Goiter

swelling in the thyroid gland, which can lead to a swelling of the neck or larynx. The most common cause for goiter is iodine deficiency. Goiter may be related to hyper and hypothyroidism.

Hyperthyroidism

Overactive tissue within the thyroid gland, resulting in overproduction and thus an excess of circulating free thyroid hormones: thyroxine (T4), triiodothyronine (T3), or both. One symptom can be a marked loss of weight.

Hypothyroidism

Hypothyroidism occurs when the thyroid gland does not produce enough thyroid hormone. About 5 percent of the U.S. population has hypothyroidism. Women are much more likely than men to develop hypothyroidism. Symptoms may include depression, lack of energy, and weight gain.

Save The Children

Save the Children is an international organization helping children in need around the world. First established in the United Kingdom in 1919, separate national organizations have been set up in more than twenty-eight countries, sharing the aim of improving the lives of children through education, health care and economic opportunities, as well as emergency aid in cases of natural disasters, war and conflict.

The organization says this about themselves:

"Save the Children is the leading independent organization creating lasting change in the lives of children in need in the United States and around the world. Recognized for our commitment to accountability, innovation and collaboration, our work takes us into the heart of communities, where we help children and families help themselves."

Please visit karatekatgraphics's Store at Zazzle for more of their designs.

About the artist:

"Karate Kat Graphics began in summer '06 with our kids selling homemade cards, giving half the proceeds to charity. Here we've built their artwork into hundreds of other playful but polished products. Many can be personalized with your own info to create something truly one-of-a-kind. As always, half of every $ earned goes to children's charities. Sales this year benefit Save the Children, a top-rated organization working in the United States and the developing world to help children in dire need."

Art For the Homeless

My heart always goes out to those who are homeless especially this time of year during the freezing winter weather. Today I came across a Zazzle artist who has seen homelessness firsthand. Here are some of her own words:

"My name is Johnna Crider and I am 26 years old. My story is a long and painful one which I express through art. I release my pain using the paintbrush and canvas.

I was homeless as a child and I want to use my art to do something that will make a difference. I would like to one day open up an art gallery that will benefit homeless shelters all across the United States because America doesn't seem to notice that the majority of her children are living in poverty--most people think of America as the land of the free, rich, and dreams being fulfilled.

Art4TheHomeless is how I express myself to the world. Art4TH is my dream to use art to raise homeless awareness in the US where the average age of a homeless American is nine years old. That means there are more and more families with children living on the streets, in shelters, or in poverty in the USA."

Please read more about Johnna and her cause here.

Also vist johnnacrider's Store at Zazzle for more art to support her cause.

Elephant Nature Park 2010 Calendar

(The following is a verbatim description from the calendar artist.)

"The Elephant Nature Park, in Chiang Mai, Thailand, is home to rescued working Asian elephants. Most of them have spent their lives logging, begging on the streets, being forced to breed, or hauling tourists on their backs for long hours daily. Some have suffered abuse and torture by their owners. Some have injuries from land mines, parasites, wounds, and starvation. Most have mental problems from stress and fright. Several are blind or partially blind; many limp from foot, leg, hip, and back problems. But they are free to live the rest of their lives at the sanctuary just being elephants, mingling with others (or not), if they so choose.

This 2010 wall calendar contains color photographs of the elephants at the Park. See groups of adults and baby elephants, older female aunties, dust bathing, and river bathing. This is a great gift for an elephant lover or anyone who wants to help to protect and defend Asian elephants and their habitat. Part of the proceeds from the sale of all elephant products at my store will go to support the heartwarming, crucial work they do at the Elephant Nature Park. In addition to providing a refuge, they provide jobs for neighboring villages, who grow pesticide-free food for the animals; protect the surrounding forest; and are building other sanctuaries, so more animals can live in peace and freedom. Visit their site: elephantnaturepark.org

Don't Drink and Drive

If you can't walk a straight line what makes you think you can drive one? The problem is once someone is drunk they aren't thinking clearly. They are close to being in a dream state. The time to make an intelligent decision is before getting drunk. The choice lies with the sober person not the drunk one. Everyone knows before they drink what can happen if they drink too much.

There are decades worth of statistics. There are thousands of graves and grieving families. Sadly these mean nothing to a drunk driver. They are basically on autopilot reduced to pride and immediate need. You can not reason with a drunk. So do not let yourself get into that situation. Most often one does not even know they have taken a life until they are sober. Imagine waking up in jail wondering what has happened. The hours behind you are an unknown blur. You have awoke to find that you have taken a life. You didn't go to sleep and have a nightmare. You woke up to one.

Please do not let this happen to you. Besides it is not just you it happens to. It is the person whose life can be cut short. It is the lives of their friends and families. Do not drink and drive. Better yet do not get drunk. As always do not let anyone else drive drunk. Please help spread the word. Visit PR Prints Zazzle store for more Don't drink and drive products.

Texting While Driving

You don't have to be a genius to know that texting while driving is dangerous. It is no less deadly than drunk driving. Some studies have shown that reaction times are actually worse for texting drivers than drunk drivers. Hard to imagine? Think about this. Though impaired the drinker already has eyes on the road while the texter does not. In addition the texter does not have both hands on the wheel.

Though new laws are being passed or proposed texting while driving is not illegal everywhere. Of course a law does not stop someone from doing something. It is still a matter of choice. Please choose to do the right thing, the smart thing. Don't text and drive.

For more Don't Text and Drive designs see dont_text_and_drive's Store at Zazzle.

Tuberous Sclerosis (TSC)

Tuberous sclerosis or tuberous sclerosis complex (TSC)-is a rare genetic disease with no medical cure. TSC causes benign tumors to grow in the brain and on other vital organs such as the kidneys, heart, eyes, lungs, and skin. In addition to the benign tumors that frequently occur in TSC, other common symptoms include seizures, mental retardation, behavior problems, and skin abnormalities.

Tuberous Sclerosis may also be the cause in some cases of Autism, Epilepsy, Lymphangioleiomyomatosis (LAM),a rare lung disease, and other diseases. This makes researching TSC vitally important as it could lead to breakthroughs or cures for many other diseases.

"Founded in 1974, the TS Alliance is the only national voluntary health agency dedicated to finding a cure for TSC while improving the lives of those affected."

Please see tsalliance's Store at Zazzle for more designs and help support the cause.

Cancer Research

trustpink4getcancer's Store at Zazzle needs help raising money for Cancer research. Here is a quote from the Zazzle store. "For a part of a mini-diploma I have taken at school, I am required to raise £250 (yes, I'm English) for a chosen charity, in my case this is Cancer Research as it has affected me in several ways. I have started a Cancer Research brand entitled 'Trust Pink, Forget Cancer', like the well-known catchphrase of Vanish: Oxy Cleans, 'Trust Pink, Forget Stains'. I have made a whole range of products and hope to raise part of the money by collecting the entire profit I make from Zazzle and putting it into the fund."

Support Zazzler Causes

Earlier tonight I started a new blog for Zazzlers. While looking for a design to promote I came across a shirt with a missing persons message. After posting the design it got me to thinking. Why not start another blog featuring Zazzler Causes? There are many artist that spend much time and effort to raise awareness.

I will be searching Zazzle for cause/awareness designs and try to post something new each day. Especially charities for the cure of diseases.

Wow the batteries in my new keyboard went dead. At least I hope that's what happened. I also hope that the next batteries will last longer than 2 weeks. Good thing the mouse was still working. It let me shut down and hook up the old keyboard without having to pull the plug.

Annnyway back to the subject at hand. If you have a cause design you would like promoted please leave a comment. I'll try to get to them but no promises. Hehe I'm making it sound like there's tons of traffic already smiley.

examples of Web browsers. Browser type typically discloses hardware
platform, operating system, and browser software and version.
zazzlercauses.blogspot.com/

How does the Site use Personally Identifiable Information?

We
are not in the business of selling personal information. In the event
that this site does use PERSONALLY IDENTIFIABLE INFORMATION we will use
that information to customize the Site, to make appropriate service
offerings, and to fulfill buying and selling requests on the Site. We
may email Visitors and Authorized Customers about research or purchase
and selling opportunities on the Site or information related to the
subject matter of the Site. We may also use Personally Identifiable
Information to contact Visitors and Authorized Customers in response to
specific inquiries, or to provide requested information.
zazzlercauses.blogspot.com/
and it's owners may use any information voluntarily given by our users
to enhance their experience in our network of sites, whether to provide
interactive or personalized elements on the sites or to better prepare
future content based on the interests of our users.
As stated
above, we use information that users voluntarily provide in order to
send out electronic newsletters and to enable users to participate in
polls, surveys, message boards, and forums. We send out newsletters to
subscribers on a regular schedule (depending on the newsletter), and
occasionally send out special editions when we think subscribers might
be particularly interested in something we are doing. The site and it's
owners never shares newsletter mailing lists with any third parties,
including advertisers, sponsors or partners.
When we use tracking
information to determine which areas of our sites users like and don't
like based on traffic to those areas. We do not track what individual
users read, but rather how well each page performs overall. This helps
us continue to build a better service for you. We track search terms
entered in Search function as one of many measures of what interests
our users.
WE may create aggregate reports on user demographics
and traffic patterns for advertisers, sponsors and partners. This
allows our advertisers to advertise more effectively, and allows our
users to receive advertisements that are pertinent to their needs.
Because we don't track the usage patterns of individual users, an
advertiser or sponsor will never know that a specific user clicked
their ad.

those who provide the services. We will disclose Personally

Personally Identifiable Information on a need to know basis for
evaluating Authorized Customers for service eligibility.

Electronic communications and databases are subject to errors,
tampering and break-ins, and we cannot guarantee or warrant that such
events will not take place and we will not be liable to Visitors or
Authorized Customers for any such occurrences.

Zazzler Causes Disclaimer

You may or may not know that the Federal Trade Commission has revised it guides governing endorsements and testimonials. What does this do for you? Part of these changes are meant to hold the online community to the same standards as the offline community. As long as this is done fairly I see it as a good thing. Here is more information on FTC Endorsement Guide for your convenience.

I actually welcome this call to transparency. It gives me an opportunity to let you see into my character. For you younger readers I am talking about how I roll.

First off this blog obviously talks about Causes. The products posted feature designs meant to raise awareness. Some of the artist may be raising money for a charity or organization. Some are only using their designs to raise awareness about something. To be clear I make no claim that a purchase of a product means that money will be donated to any charity. This includes products with designs by me. My designs can be recognized as by tjustleft.

There are two reasons this blog exist. 1.) To raise awareness about important causes, charities, and/or issues. 2.) To make money for my family. Due to health issues I am unable to work outside the home. Rather than apply for disability I am trying to earn money working from home. I will always do so in an ethical manner. I know what it is like to be ripped off and deceived. I will not do that to someone else.

Does this blog make money? I surely hope it will. As of today, January 7 2010, it has not. What are the methods used to monetize this blog? The products you see on Zazzler have special links. Those links contain information that identifies me as an affiliate. If you were to click those links and purchase a product I may receive a commission. Other affiliate links are also placed within the text of my post. Not all links I place on this blog are affiliate links. It would be nice if they were though.

Another way I may make money from this blog is advertisements. If I do place an ad on my blog I will do so in hopes of making money from it. Placing a product or advertisement on this or any blog or website does not mean I have made an endorsement. I does not even mean I have been paid. I would like to be paid to show advertisements :). If I am it still will not constitute an endorsement. If I do endorse anything I will clearly say so.

Do I receive free products or money in exchange for testimonials or reviews? As of January 7 2010 I have not. This really isn't a review blog so there isn't much chance of that happening. I am not above accepting freebies however. If you want to send me a free product or money please feel free to do so. I will be happy. If you want a testimonial or review in exchange you may not necessarily be happy with what I have to say. Whatever I do say will be my opinion. Also I will not be obligated to return any such products or money.

There is a post on this blog and elsewhere telling others they can suggest a cause related product or design. I have made the offer to stimulate commenting, as a way to let other designers know they have a chance to have their or someone else's designs showcased, and as a way to see designs I may not otherwise find on my own. In no way am I obligated to take any such suggestions.

I do hope you enjoy this blog. Even if you do not buy anything there is the chance to made aware of things that you previously were not. That in itself will make the time and effort I have spent worthwhile.
