Tuberous Sclerosis (TSC)

Tuberous sclerosis or tuberous sclerosis complex (TSC)-is a rare genetic disease with no medical cure. TSC causes benign tumors to grow in the brain and on other vital organs such as the kidneys, heart, eyes, lungs, and skin. In addition to the benign tumors that frequently occur in TSC, other common symptoms include seizures, mental retardation, behavior problems, and skin abnormalities.

Tuberous Sclerosis may also be the cause in some cases of Autism, Epilepsy, Lymphangioleiomyomatosis (LAM),a rare lung disease, and other diseases. This makes researching TSC vitally important as it could lead to breakthroughs or cures for many other diseases.

"Founded in 1974, the TS Alliance is the only national voluntary health agency dedicated to finding a cure for TSC while improving the lives of those affected."
